Building a Jaxon Support Tank
Miniature for Heavy Gear

The Klemm Light Tank is the North's basic recon/cavalry tank. Like most small armored vehicles, it has numerous factory and field variant. It's not quite cheap at 1867 TV, and it's not as though as a full-blown tank, but its load of guide missiles makes it extremely deadly. One of its common (and cheaper) variants is the Jaxon, which replaces the costly missiles with loads of unguided explosive rockets (2 x HRP/48) -- if you're willing to spend the ammo, this bad boy will utterly annihilate an entire area of the game board. This model was built by Marc A. Vezina on a hull painted by Alain Gadbois, based on a fan's suggestion.

Step 1: Assembly

Carefully clean up all the pieces. The conversion is dead simple: it involves replacing the Klemm's provided turret with the missile launchers of the defense turret. The picture at right shows the parts before assembly. Note that by drilling a small hole in the center of the tank's hull and inserting a pin, the turret can be made removable, allowing you to field a Klemm or a Jaxon as the needs of the scenario dictates.

Jaxon Support Tank Back Step 2: Painting

For painting, make sure the central support pilon shares the same color pattern as the hull of the tank. The launchers themselves have been left bare metal in this case, though a wash of black ink will make the details "pop out" better. They can also be painted the same as the rest of the tank. The front end of each tube is painted a distinctive color to represent the sacrificial dust cover that protect the rockets until they launch. Here, a drop of orange has been added on top of the red to highlight the individual tubes. The rear received a quick airbrushing of black to simulate post-launch carbon residues.

Like most large vehicle figures, the Jaxon does not need a base, though one can be made with sheet styrene easily to fit in with the rest of your army.
