Pod Corps Vermont reports on the demos he ran at Bakuretsu Con in Burlington, Vermont, on June 22nd and 23rd, 2002. Overall, the convention was very good, well-run and chock full of events. It was sponsored by Black Knight Comics and featured standard gaming events (minis, rpgs, ccgs) as well as anime and video game rooms. They got a lot of traffic at the Pod Corps table, with lots of people stopping to look and ask about the game.
The layout for the demo was a very basic set of Gears; blow-ups of the original demo reference sheet are used to teach the game; rules used are second edition. Range is at a 3x multiplier, using yellow nylon webbing with pre-marked increments. Actions and Command Points are tracked with colored glass beads; speed is tracked with a d10, plus a double sided counter to indicate Top or Combat. The terrain is Geohex mountainscape, with K&M trees mounted on 40mm bases to prevent tipping.
