Kickstarter Update: Final Plastic Test Pops - Assembled CEF Minis Preview!

We received the final plastic pops for all the molds at our office this Monday. We spotted 4 small problems and have asked that the mold manufacturer make those final fixes this week and then the molds will be approved and shipped.

When everything goes right.

I posted recently what a typical day in the workshop looks like and received some excellent feedback from different people who were interested in some of the nitty gritty that happens during a typical day. I've had a couple of weeks to reflect on that blog entry and there was one thing missing. What happens when things go right.

You see the most common problem I have in the day to day work when I'm in the workshop is that most often the problem is that very little goes right. And by right I mean "up to my perfectionist-ic standards of what could as a quality cast". The issue is not that I have a problem when things go right but rather than the rarity of it happening means that when the opposite happens it can be it's own issues.

Kickstarter Update: DP9 Online Store Special Orders can be added to Backer Reward Packages

We have received numerous requests from Backers to be able to add items purchased from the Dream Pod 9 Online Store, that were not available in the pledge manager, to their Backer Reward Packages when they ship out this June and July. Now that the pledge manager is locked and we can look at fulfilling these requests. You can now special order any of our Heavy Gear or other products including books, minis, paint set, terrain, parts, etc. Even the new Jovian Chronicles Fleet Scale minis if you want!

Who can pilot a Gear?

There is an interesting aspect about Heavy Gear as a game where the Gears are piloted by humans. Ignore the fact that it is really the computer that does most of the driving, a thing a bit higher tech than what Volvo and Daimler are demonstrating. So who can pilot a gear and who does it best? (Hint, in real life it is anyone!)

One fact that we accept with Gears is that they are mass produced on an assembly line, but they are still machines, each one vastly more expensive than equipping an infantry soldier. You don't throw just any person into your machine if you want it to fight at full effectiveness.

Kickstarter Update: New North & South Test Pop Plastic Models!

This weeks update shows the new Northern and Southern test pop plastic models. We took the time to put together one of each of the Northern models (Hunter, Jaguar, Cheetah, Grizzly, Kodiak, and Ferret shown in both walker and ground mode), see the photo below. Plus the Southern models (Jager, Black Mamba, Iguana, Spitting Cobra, King Cobra, and the 3 Drones), see the photo below. These were all assembled from the test plastic pop sprues we received from the mold manufacturer last week to test where problems are in the molds, they still have some holes and shrinkage on the parts.
