Work is progressing on Jovian Wars, with the release of the Alpha Playtest Rules in late December. We are finishing up 3D models for all the new Jovian Spaceships needed for the our upcoming Jovian Wars Kickstarter, tentatively scheduled to start on February 15th, 2017. The Kickstarter will be used to pay for all the 3D modeling, rapid prototyping, and production mold costs for the new resin spaceships.
Today's post features a remastering of the Valiant spaceship for the Jovian faction, which we have done as a proof of concept. After doing some rapid prototype test prints with Shapeways to see the best size for the new ships we have decided to increase the scale slightly by 25% from 1/5000 scale of the old ships to 1/4000 scale for the new releases. This allows for more robust connection pegs and holes between the various ship components and slightly larger weapon parts, with standard mount point pegs on the ships and holes on the underside of the new weapons for easy parts assembly. The attached images show the remastered Valiant which is now 83mm long compared to the old model that was 66mm. Both the new and old scale look great beside the new fleet scale (1/1000 scale) exo-armors. And the new larger scale allowed us to make the Valiant's habitat modules separate parts. Allowing for assembly in either the standard flight mode (straight up and down) or in the deployed mode when the ship is not accelerating and the modules rotate to generate micro gravity for the crew.
We are also doing a proof of concept for the remastered Poseidon spaceship for CEGA, which is at Shapeways right now and should be back later this month, we'll get images up once its back. All the other ships planned for the Kickstarter will be never released miniatures for the Jovian and CEGA factions, we'll be doing previews of the 3d models and giving Alpha Playtest stats in the coming weeks.
The new Jovian Wars – Alpha Playtest Rules Package is now available for free download on DriveThruRPG. We added two new counter sheets pdfs to the downloads with sizes fixed of the capital ships and exos & fighter so they are the good size when printed. Our rules designer, Dave, also made some quick Jovian Wars videos that he posted to YouTube with Alpha game play and rules examples which you can checkout at the link below.
