Important Changes to the Dream Pod 9 Online Store due to US Tariff of 25% on Canadian Imports to the USA!
The new US Tariff of 25% on all Canadian imports is now in effect as of February 4th 2025. Dream Pod 9 has been doing consolidated US Customs entries and then shipping all our US and International orders with the US Postal Service. But the new tariff would require DP9 to pay thousands of dollars each month, on the total value of each consolidated entry. Even on International orders just transiting thru the USA to their final destination. So we have to switch all our order shipping to Canada Post, which is more expensive than the US Postal Service. We’ve checked the shipping costs with Canada Post on orders to different locations in the US and Internationally in order to calculate new average shipping costs. The new US and Canadian orders fixed shipping cost is now $22.00 USD (up from $18.40 USD). The new International orders fixed shipping cost is now $55.00 USD (up from $48.80 USD). We’ve also had to remove the free shipping option, as Canada post does not have flat rate box shipping options to the US or International, the shipping cost just keep increasing as more product is shipped. DP9 will cover any extra cost over the new fixed shipping costs listed above. We also had to remove the DP9 Online Store Small Items shipping option for custom parts mailed in a small padded envelope. The US Tariff will not effect Canadian and International customer orders shipping with Canada Post.
Important Notice: US Customer orders will be effected by the new US Tariff as follows, orders will be shipped with Canada Post to the USA where the US Postal Service will deliver them. DP9 will make a Customs declaration with the order’s contents and total value for each package using the order Sub-Total value (before any reward points are used to lower the order cost). The US Postal Service will be required by US Customs to collect the 25% Tariff on the order Sub-Total from the US Customer before delivery. (US Customer will need to pay the Tariff for the US Postal Service to deliver the package.) DP9 will make a quick estimate of the Tariff the US Customer will need to pay and post it in the order comments when the order status “Shipped” email is sent.
No one wins in this situation and Canada has responded to the US Tariffs with retaliatory Tariffs, but for now the products that DP9 imports from the USA (books, pewter, resin, plastic toy robot sprues, plastic clamshell blisters, and decal sheets) are not on the list yet. So Dream Pod 9 does not plan on increasing prices for now, but will have to if Canada decides later to tariff the items we need to make our products.
Its going to be a bumpy ride in the coming months and we hope this situation ends soon. We’re keeping to our US Convention plans and will be attending Adepticon 2025 this March down in Milwaukee, WI and Historicon 2025 this July in Lancaster, PA.
