Dream Pod 9 Partners with Flameborn Games A New Montreal-Based Game Studio to Announce Heavy Gear III – An Immersive Sci-Fi Action-RPG with Mech Combat and Open World Exploration Powered by Unreal Engine 5
Montreal, Quebec –2025-07-30– Dream Pod 9, an established name in the world of pen and paper Roleplaying Games and Tabletop Miniature Wargames, is excited to announce a new collaboration with a brand-new Montreal-based game studio Flameborn Games, together they are proud to be introducing their newest project: Heavy Gear III. This marks the return of the Heavy Gear franchise, reimagined as a Sci-Fi Action-RPG featuring intense Gear [mech] gameplay, open world exploration, deep narrative & RPG systems and fast paced combat that fans have come to love from previous Heavy Gear titles.
Developed in partnership with the team at Flameborn Games, Heavy Gear III will bring the rich lore and deep world-building of the Heavy Gear universe to new heights. Combining the strategic depth of the original franchises with cutting-edge technology of Epic’s Unreal Engine 5, this title promises to offer players an immersive and action-packed experience.
A New Chapter for the Heavy Gear Legacy
The Heavy Gear franchise, first introduced in the 1990s, is known for its deep mech combat systems, intricate world-building, and engaging tactical gameplay. With Heavy Gear III, the franchise is returning to its single-player roots while exploring a new direction within an open world setting. The game will feature a sandbox map that brings the Badlands of Terra Nova, a key region within the Heavy Gear universe, to life. Here players can freely explore unique settlements and landmarks, engage in action packed fights, collect weapons, purchase equipment, train in skills, recruit followers and customize their own Gears [mechs] to suit their playstyle.

For the first time ever, players will be able to explore the war-torn Badlands region of Terra Nova in never-before-seen detail, thanks to the power of Epic’s Unreal Engine 5. The game will feature breathtaking visuals including isolated farmsteads, desert expanses, rocky ravines, underground cave networks, and sprawling urban landscapes, all brought to life with next-gen lighting, physics, and rendering technology.
