About Caprice

You're my cousin, Elphrad. Of coruse I wouldn't do anything to hurt you. We've also been business partners since we were both practically in diapers! But I can't allow this! You're collaborating with the CEF... The invaders that came in and took over our entire planet. I have friends who are striking abck at them. They''re part of the Liberati! I have to-

Yes, but-

Ok, I can trust you fro three more days. No more. You've earned that.

If you say this is aprt of a "long game" I'll trust you. maybe you can have a few shipments of supplies 'lost' where my new friends can find them?

Caprice has an important place as a critical junction in the web-like network of Tannhauser Gates that makes interstellar travel possible. Caprice was quickly conquered when the CEF reached out to the stars, but many factions are plotting to remove the CEF from power when an opportunity arises. Caprice fields insect-like walkers that were adapted from industrial equipment used to mine the planet's harsh highlands. While not as flexible or as advanced as Terra Nova's Heavy Gears, the Caprician Mounts are capable of scaling sheer cliffs to move into firing positions or ambush targets. Forces of Caprice are split into Corporate and Liberati factions. The Corporate factions are working for the CEF rulers, at least publicly. Some are working to undermine the CEF by delaying strategic orders and passing information to freedom fighters. Others are truly backing the CEF and some corporations have sent highly-trained security units on the CEF fleets to Terra Nova to aid the war effort. Some straddle the line between compliance and resistance, waiting to see who will be the ultimate victor. The Liberati are the freedom fighters of Caprice, descended from freedom-seeking migrant workers and disaffected corporate wage slaves. Equipped with captured and converted Mounts, they are fighting the CEF directly with aid from the Black Talons.

Corporate Forces

Corporate forces are allied with the CEF forces, but that does not mean they are loyal to those forces. The tru motivations of corporate interests varies widely and is often kep hidden despite the CEF's attempts to gather intelligence on their allies. The corporations have decades of experience with espionage and counter espionage amonst themselves.

Some corporations have truly sided with the CEF, but even these are looking for ways to profit from the alliance. They are allies of convenience, nothing more. They are using the CEF to gain advantages over competition with the hopes that in time they can become critical contractors and suppliers to the CEF, then become the effective rulers by exploiting this relationship.  Other corporate forces are playing a long game by working with the CEF until such time as they can openly join with the Liberati forces. These rebellious corporations often arrange for equipment to go missing (funneled to Liberati groups; Ideally blamed on another corporate group) or delay crucial equipment to slow the CEF's ceaseless war machine.

Corporate forces, especially those transported to Terra Nova to act as technical advisors and specialists, are highly trained and know how to make effective use of their insectile Mounts. Corporate Caprician forces can take CEF units as allies.

The Liberati

The Liberati movement began with groups of nomadic workers on Caprice's harsh wastelands taht rejected the long-term restrictive employment contracts the corproate interests on Caprice favored. Small family-oriented bands of workers would travel from job site to job site providing countless necessary skills to the mines and other operations found on Caprice's empty surface. These groups would work for a few months or years, then move on. The Liberati lifestyle was focused on personal freedom, especially when compared to the many urban workers on Caprice who were effectively indentured to a corporate concern.

With the CEF invasion of Caprice, the Liberati evolved to take in all of the freedom fighters of the small planet. Disaffected workers from all over the barren world use the Liberati name as a rallying cry as they strike back for their independence. Some groups are tightly integrated with the migrant workers that still privade vital services to operations on the Caprician highlands, while others know no organization beyond their own revolutionary cell.

Liberati forces are not as well-trained as their Corporate counterparts, but often have useful knowledge that allows them to plan ambushes. The Caprician military-grade Mounts are all derived from civilian exploration, construction, and mining equipment, so manya re able to put these vehicles to use fighitng their oppressors. Liberati cells are often allied with the Black Talons and can be fielded with Black Talon combat groups to reinforce their Mounts and infantry.

Black Talon - Return to Cat's Eye

Aftershocks and political fallout from the Interpolar War and the destruction of Peace River have left Terra Nova reeling. With Earth identified as the culprit, Terra Nova's governments have resolved to never to be caught off guard again and the Black Talon program was formed for the purpose of being sent off planet to recon Earth’s former colony worlds. Their first mission is the gate world Caprice, with its orbital fleet yards that were the staging grounds for the first attack on Terra Nova. They have the training and equipment with which to observe and sabotage Earth's Colonial Expeditionary Force (CEF) wherever opportunities arise and gain new allies whenever possible.

But it was not enough. The CEF is hell-bent on recapturing control of the colonies and has the largest fighting force in human history. War is coming, a war beyond anything that we've seen before. The fate of Terra Nova is held by an elite few, and they shall determine the fate of mankind.
